Chill Thursday

Shopping at the new H&M @ ION Orchard yesterday. Knit and feathers everywhere, I'm lucky I made it alive WITH my nose still attached!

Humpday!

We made it through mid-week!! Just 2 more days to the weekend!

DIY: Going Purple

So couple weeks ago, I found out about this awesome product La Riche Directions semi-permanent hair dye. I bought a pot of Plum with my colleague, think it cost about SGD 18 a pot. I've been wanting to have purple hair for the longest time, and been youtube-ing and reading blogs on people who have done it themselves. The dip-dye stood out to me cos it's easier to do, and the ombre effect is always cooler haha.

So I got me some bleach > a few moments of ahlian gold hair > some death stares from Nettie who thought I was painting the bathroom purple...and 3 hours later TADA! Awesome ombre purple dip-dyed hair. LOVE IT!

The colour is really vibrant and will only get brighter as I wash it. Best is that it's semi-permanent, has no chemicals and is conditioning for my hair! I only used maybe 1/8 of the pot, so it's really economical as well!

In other news, the Xmas party in AMS is just 2 weeks away! Our warm hats are here, only SGD8 from Gmarket ^^ It's gonna be coooooldddddd~~!!!!

START/END - icecream

Caught 2 movies this weekend - Breaking Dawn Part 2 and Rise of the Guardians. Gosh...Twilight...it's like I'm glad it's over, but not (?). Feels like an end of an era. HAHA. Quiet weekend with Nettie, viewing houses, meals with friends, dinner at Tanjong Katong, lotsa reading lotsa sleeping. Blame it on the (rainy) weather!!

We recently celebrated another milestone (and we do love to celebrate, and celebrate often!) - having 250.000 properties live on our website!

If you're looking for a hotel/hostel/guesthouse/homestay to book, try our website! For regular bookings, you only pay upon arrival, so no worries about money going missing on the internet.

Ikoi @ Hotel Miramar

Last week, Nettie had an extreme Japanese craving, so on a spur she made reservations for us all at Ikoi. It's the 3rd time we've been there, and you have have have to make reservations cos it's so small and people stay forever. Fresh sashimi and tons of other sushi, yakitori, tempura, noodle, rice, side dishes that you can order till your zip bursts. The a la carte buffet costs SGD38++ per person, and dinner slots are from 6-11pm. You can aid your digestion with the free-flow hot green tea :) Alternatively, wash the sushi down with some yummy hot sake, SGD18 per bottle.

Nantsuttei Ramen

What makes a good bowl of ramen? The thick broth? The springy noodles? The melt-in-your-mouth chashu? The enthusiastic service staff? The authenticity level? (Are you hungry yet?)

I think Nantsuttei has it all! I've walked past it countless times while dining at Millenia's Walk Oitadakimasu area and finally we tried it for lunch one day. I'm sooo hooked! Nettie has the highest standards for ramen, and this one passed the test.

Recommend with 2 thumbs up - the Chashu Ramen (SGD16), comes with 4 succulent pieces of chashu. If you like spicy, they also have one with spicy miso minced meat. Don't be "gaykiang" and order Extreme, but if you do, don't worry the toilet is just next door.

Grab a bar seat and watch the very very cool automated ramen cooking machine. Press a button, and the sieve decends into the boiling water, rising after the ramen is perfectly cooked to timing.

The Art of the (Lego) Brick

The Art of the Brick opened this weekend at the Art Science Museum, Marina Bay Sands. It's a fun little exhibition of artworks and sculptures created with Lego bricks, by Nathan Sawaya. The artist uses the bricks to represent the human condition, the people around him, the things he sees everyday. If you like Lego, it's a must-go! Better than Lego Land (hurhur).

I recommend getting a double pass (SGD15 for locals) to also catch Outside In: A Magnum Photos Showcase. See countries in a different perspective through the lense of the photographer. No photos allowed thus no previews from me, but I liked it!

Cafe Review: Duchess Brunch@ Broadcast HQ

Sunday brunch at Broadcast HQ, a really chill place which rocks alternative beats while you munch. Nigel DJ-ed there last week and it's pretty near all our houses, so we gave it a shot. It's a 3-storey shophouse on Rowell Road (full of character already) and I love brick walls, and they have brick walls (score!). Brunch was on first floor, with a niffy music section where you can buy vinyls and they broadcast concert footage. I think there's a dancefloor/bar on the 2nd and 3rd floors, have to go back to check it out and try their sake peach jelly tingamajig.

For the food, don't expect your usual brunch breakfast plates with scrambled eggs. We had the braised pork cheeks with a sunny-side-up, baked beans and sausages, topped with toast (SGD20). The wanton chips were good, I recommend it with the cheese and onion dip, and the pea guacamole (SGD 16 with 3 dips, SGD 4 to top up chips). Only miff was that the coffee was slightly over-roasted and could have been done better. But overall, a really chill place to hang out if you like indie music.
