Just another day at work...

Yesterday we had our annual appreciation event for hoteliers at CHIJMES. It was a really pretty location and I had lots of fun sourcing music to play at the event. Luckily everyone liked my music list *phew* and received lots of positive feedback. Ok my taste in music still can make it! We dressed in blue, had some blue drinks, and had a ballin' good time!

Proud Sister Moment!

My brother has been very active in his school band since he was 13 playing the clarinet. Last night was his very last performance with his college band at the Esplanade Theatres. Last as in, last performance before his A levels and with this particular team of band members. So so proud, seeing him as First Chair Clarinet and doing 3 solos throughout the 2.5 hour performance! :D How time has flown, I'm sure many of my friends remember him as the cheeky 5-year-old running around pulling their skirts LOL.

I only managed to sneak 1 shot of him playing solo, since photography was not allowed in the theatre.

There were cousins from both sides of the family who came down to support him. Hope he felt some love! My brother was actually down with a fever and lung infection, and running a temperature on stage, but he wouldn't miss his last performance for nothing!

I'm so Thirsty!

Cannot tell you.....how glad I was to have a long weekend!! Was a very impromptu weekend with last-minute plans to go get drinks at Brewerz and then Hood Bar, deciding last minute to watch a movie, getting ready last minute to go clubbing, and (well not so last minute) but catching up with one of my oldest pals! All in all a pretty good weekend seeing lots of people, and sleeping so damn early yesterday Nettie slept at 8 omg....LOL. Asking old bones to go clubbing, that's what you get.

Ya huh...I think it was a pretty good night. LOL.

Quite A little bit hungover, headed to The Ground Café & Bar with some coke (coke cures everything I swear) and chats with Cher. Have known her since I was 6  years old. We meet up here and there, sometimes frequently sometimes once in 3 years (cue me staring at her lol), but it was a nice feeling to be able to just fall back into sync with someone who I've not seen in awhile and to be reminded as to why...well as to why we are still friends. Like I told her yesterday, I'm at a point where I will only really maintain friendships if I sense the other party is equally committed to me. I have many friends around me, so I really can't be bothered with those who do not put me as a priority. Not that I have to be number 1, but you know, if you say you wanna meet, and we've agreed on a time, to stick to it. Simple things like this! But strangely, not everyone can do that.

The Ground Café is pretty near my place. Passed by it several times but haven't tried it. I went to the previous establishment there before, Big Bad Wolf, which I quite liked so sad they closed down. Atmosphere wise, really nice for some chats with friends. They had outdoor seating too, which I think would be nice if the fans outside were on. Didn't really try much from the menu, my stomach could only handle coke and tea, but Cher had 2 cups of flat white and she said it was pretty good. And heard good reviews about the food as well (though the truffle fries I had were a little meh). Probably be back again on a better day to try out more drinks and food!

Brunch @ Symmetry

After almost 3 weeks away from home, I tasked Nettie to organize a nice brunch session with the pals when I got back. We even pre-ordered her tomato dish because it was not available for lunch, and the nice people at Symmetry were so well...nice, to do so haha. We had a good dinner at Symmetry for my birthday, so was pretty excited to try out their brunch menu.

It's so funny when we ordered everything and the waitress asked, "To share?" we all immediately said "NO!" LOL. In the end the portions were pretty good for sharing so we did share haha. A must-order is the truffle fries with the amaze-balls truffle mayo sauce. We also had some bacon croquette thing which felt like real comfort food! Nettie was satisfied with her plate of tomatoes, while I had the big breakfast with scrambled eggs and I was struggling to finish it. The breakfast trio is a really balanced choice with fruit and yoghurt jars alongside an omelette, while Nigel felt they were abit stingy with the hollandaise sauce on his Eggs Ben. All in all pretty good I'd say, but we spent about SGD 40 per pax though, so not the cheapest place for bunch.

And to end off this post, a picture of Nigel being totally Asian-nified! We've taught you well Nige!!

Pink and Proud

It's been 3 years since I've moved out from home. I know many who have moved out in anger, in tears, with regret and words left unspoken. I'm living proof that this does not have to be the case.

I moved out with hope, with happiness, with a smile on my face, with the blessing of my mum, with faith that if I could do this, I could do anything I set out to do. I moved out feeling so loved.

As with many things in life, communication is key. Many think that just by saying what they feel, they have communicated. No. Communication is 2-ways. You have not communicated until the other party has responded, until you have both listened to each other, until you have both found common ground to agree. Communicate with love, not hate. Communicate to understand, not to defy. Communication takes time and courage, and it doesn't have to be with words, but sometimes with actions.

For me, I communicate much more with my mummy through Facebook (yes I've added her and she stalks my page like no tomorrow), through Whatsapp, and am spending quality time at our weekly dinners. Coming out doesn't mean to be flamboyant and to flaunt your sexuality in others' faces. I came out just once before I moved out, and we have stayed silent on the subject since then, because I understand that they would feel more comfortable that way. Like my mummy says, "You twitch your backside one inch I will already know what you are thinking." So it's enough for me that I am accepted and Nettie is accepted as part of the family. Nettie is now included in our family holiday plans, and in any holiday event or birthday celebration reservations are always made for 6 not 5.

One day, my mummy will dress in pink and come with me to Pink Dot, but for me now, that is enough. Enough to know that I am still loved.

Share your story with me if you will, and let's get inspired by each other. If not, see you at Pink Dot 2013, save the date!
