Cafe Review: Club Street Social

Yet another sunny Sunday spent out for brunch. The last time we met up with these 2 was at Phoebe's wedding, and somehow the heavens did not align for another meet-up. But this time we made it happen at Club Street Social, a small cosy New-York style café on Gemmill Lane.

It's not that hard to find for the informed (i.e. those with Google maps). Haha. The nearest MRT I reckon is either Raffles Place or Chinatown MRT, and it's pretty near the public carpark near Club Street. Another landmark to look out for is China Square, the café is just opposite. Also the soon-to-be-open Telok Ayer MRT is just behind Gemmill Lane.

We went early (around 11am) because they do not take reservations, and were given a seat with slightly 10 minutes of waiting time. We first enjoyed a mocha and hot chocolate at the bar first, which was also pretty chill. Nettie said the hot chocolate was too thick for her liking, but the mocha hit all my buttons right. I had 2 cups that day! :)

For brunch, I ordered the much raved about scrambled eggs and toast with an additional side of mushrooms and pork sausage. I quite liked it, the scrambled eggs had good consistency without seeming dry! My mushrooms aren't in the photo because they forgot about them, but came soon after on a separate plate.

Nettie had the Panini with prosciutto, mozzarella, tomatoes and truffle mayo, which I found quite delightful as well.

On the other side of the table both gals ordered Panini with bacon and egg, with mushrooms, which were quite mediocre.

As if our stomachs could expand even more, after all the plates were cleared, we also ordered a Nutella bread pudding with ice cream to share. I'm not really a dessert nor pudding person, but I kept picking at this one, so worth a try!

Overall the quality of the food is quite good, but I would suggest sharing as the portions are pretty big. The café is small so noise levels are not very high, you at least can hear each other speaking clearly without imposing on other tables. But also because the café is small, don't expect to spend the whole afternoon there. Once you're done, the waiters will slyly imply that they need their tables for the waiting guests in queue (and there was almost always a constant flowing queue after noon).
