Insta-Updates

Holla holla.

In the few days I've been absent, strange flying objects have invaded Planet Earth and made our farm produce grow larger, which resulted in giant wedges when I visited Nando's.

No but seriously. Have you ever seen such a freaking big wedge before? (butts not included)

This also almost gave my mother a heart attack, until she saw the next picture....

...and saw that 7 people were sharing this meal, and that her daughter was not going to be obese and overweight within the near future.

After a fruitful Freaky Friday, we stumbled home half-drunk, and snagged some instant porridge and a Hello Kitty coin bank from the local convenience store. All I can say is....very strategic location for a convenience store to be located at, target audience drunkards - they tend to spend money quite generously after drinks.

Yesterday we finally got to springcleaning our room. And look what I found...how cute baby Nettie.

We also finally changed the bedsheets and the children are out to say hello!

Just as well that the room is neat and pretty now, because packing it gave me a horrible allergic reaction. My nose and dust just do not go, I started sneezing so bad - those super combo sneezes where you sneeze once and 7 sneezes follow :( - that I developed this equally horrible headache. Even Korean BBQ did not salvage it, until I popped some pills and just went to sleep (on my nice new white bedsheets hehe). But I'm fine now.

And all of you better wake up. September has ended.

Chill the F Out

Some days you want to just scream at the top of your lungs: F this SHIT!

And when that happens, you just gotta take a deep breath, open your eyes and look around you, and realize that you are worth more than the situation calls for.

You know me (well, not really...but if you do...), I'm a happy-go-lucky individual, nothing much gets me down, generally I love my life.

Yes, there are situations I can't control, but that's just it, you gotta realize it's out of your control and not place too much stress on yourself. There are situations where I just wanna shake the person "WAKE UP YOUR IDEA!!!" but I just tell myself, at the end of the day this is just work, it shouldn't dictate the rest of my life or my mood. When I leave the office everyday, I leave the baggage at the door. My life is so much more than just work, and you should realize yours is too.

So anyone out there reading this, caught in the dumps: Prioritize your happiness over anything else, and nothing will get you down. If you don't like the situation you are in, try to change it. If you can't change it, leave it, because there are greener pastures out there. Similarly, this applies to relationships, quit thinking "He/she will change for me eventually," and hang on for 10 years, only to realize you had missed opportunities because you hung on. YOU ARE WORTH MORE THAN THAT. (Speaking from experience ok.) And if anyone or anything tries to bring you down, it's because they are worth less than you.

To be really lame, but seriously, YOLO. Life's short, quit living it for others and start living it for yourself.

Fast Cars + Big Stars

Singapore Grand Prix 2013 Formula One Championship weekend in Singapore! Got a good deal buying last minute tickets off our colleague, so we trooped to see the races last Friday! It was our first time there...I know the races have been going on for years, but probably our last HAHA. We just wanted to soak in the experience, didn't hurt that Big Bang was playing that night (fantastic baby!), but too loud and sweaty for us ultimately.

Luckily our office is just next to the gate, so we were not held up by the road blocks :D

We got seats at the Bay Grandstand, with its amazing city skyline.

Later we took a walk around and got even closer to the cars! Though they were going so fast all you can see are blurs haha.

Walking down to the Esplanade and Padang, everyone was in such a festive mood! I think it's the one weekend you can walk around with a beer in your hand openly (isn't it illegal? LOL maybe it's illegal to walk around with an open beer bottle in case you decide to crack someone's skull open.), music performances every where you turn at makeshift stages, and general merry making all round. Puts you in a happy mood!

You can see them all dressed up in their "One of a Kind" tee...so ironic right....everyone was wearing it. LOL. We initially got a real good seat up front, but we're not such huge fans to wait for 3 hours when there are so many other things going on. So we upped and left for drinks at the bar. Still wasn't too bad when the show started at 11.15pm (on time!), still got a decent view :D

BIG BANG! T.O.P is still the cutest *melts*!

We kept walking towards the exit, and Big Bang kept appearing again to sing again (repeat songs of course haha Fantastic Baby and Bad Boy were performed twice). So that concludes our hot sweaty night as teenagers again. Boom shakalaka!

Tanuki Raw = Big-Balled Squirrel

So I learnt today that Tanuki is a species of squirrels with ginormous balls, hence the photo above -_- Luckily....no ball-inspired dishes at this swanky joint on the 2nd floor of Orchard Central. With an open bar as its central feature, it served as the perfect mid-week joint for a much-needed drink (or 3). And trust me, I really needed it after a very long today.

Wooh the martinis were strong baybeh and only going for $10 before 8pm! I had a lychee and sake martini, kept me running the whole night.

Suggest to skip the sashimi and go for the salmon belly, price is the same ($5 for 5 slices during Happy Hour) but quality is miles apart. I don't eat oysters but the girls ordered a couple ($2-5 per oyster, depending on the type) and they were slurped down within minutes!

If you are still on Foursquare, check in to get a free plate of fried salmon skin with spicy sambal! Damn shiok but a little oily. We also ordered mixture of normal/lotus/spam fries and edamame. You can tell we weren't big on solids tonight. Saw sushi and dons on the menu too so can give it a try next time, didn't look too expensive (~$10-20 per item).

We were all tipsy and tired by 9pm, what little old ladies we all are haha! And what with the damn road closures for F1, we even managed to train back, damn proud of ourselves lol! A good night with ma girlies, always makes the week more bearable! :)

Tanuki Raw is at Orchard Central Level 2, has outdoor smoking area as well.

Mooncake Everyday

Working within the hospitality business, we get to enjoy certain perks, especially during festive season! Endless turkeys and log cakes during Christmas; bakkwa feast during CNY; and of course delicious mooncake during the Mid-Autumn Festival! Every day during lunch I will have some new 冰皮 (snow skin) mooncake from some famous hotel to try. How lucky!!

Even then, today we couldn't resist buying 4 of these black beauties at Nex's mooncake fair. The sales lady at Home Favorites Cookies & Durian kept feeding us spoon after spoon of samples, and finally convinced us to whip out our credit card to enjoy the 15% Citibank discount. No regrets though as I'm typing this and on a durian high, it beats any of the other hotel snow skins!! Damn bloody shiok!!

Can you see durian oozing out?!?! If you are a durian lover I highly recommend this!!

Mao Shan Wang with Gold Flakes, from Home Favorite Cookies & Durian, 4 for $72.
